Times whatever on the early-mid 1999. Best of everything. Can use older parts for less money (starter) and modify better parts to fit (ZJ alternator) and still has a distributor. Make sure it doesnt have an 0331 head and youre all set!

Agreed. Although I have been happy with my 2001, I realize that the 1999 is pretty much the best year for the newer body style.

Sorry to hijack here but I think it's on topic... If a 99 doesn't have a distributor (coil on plug) then it has the 0311 cyl head?

Thanks for the quick reply.. I'm currently on a quest to find my dream 1999 XJ: stock and most important CLEAN (which has been a very uphill battle here in the Cleveland area) and ive avoided the 00-01 for the bad head and it's good to know that some late 99s had it too. Thanks again!

96 you may get lucky and have 29 spline 8.25 but if not your chances of an 8.25 are high better then the d35
