So I have a 98' Sport, modified with 5.5" of lift and a whole list of new parts. I paid $2900 for the Jeep stock and have almost $3k in new parts including lift parts, wheels, tires, etc. Basically almost $6k in the stinking thing.

It seems like every time I turn around there is something else that needs fixed on it. The latest and greatest is the heater core. I suspected it a few months ago but now it is confirmed as it has started leaking. Fortunately not inside on the floor but managed to drain out the drain hose from the same spot as the a/c condensation.

The a/c leaks freon, slowly, so I have to add a can or two every summer. Heard most the time the leak is in the evaporator coil next to the heater core. Next, the rear main seal is leaking a little so it needs changed. Not that big of deal.

I said the latest and greatest was the heater core but I forgot, the last time we had snow a couple weeks ago, my Jeep was parked at work for a couple of weeks (job requires travel in a company vehicle). I guess the snow that was piled up on the hood and windshield, after slowly melting, the water found its way inside my Jeep on the drivers side floor board. When I got back in town I found my carpet soaking wet and have not had time to pull it out and let it dry out.

Oh yeah, I had replaced my steering gearbox with a new one last summer and that stinking thing has about an inch of play in it so it makes is sucky to drive on long trips as it is back and forth all over the the lane. I know it is not the caster because I have adjusted that to the max without putting the front drive shaft in a bind. Ball joints are good and so are the tie rod ends. The play is in the gear box. I should have put the Durango gear box in, I know.

All this being said, I don't know whether to keep the stinking Jeep and fix all this stuff or just dump it. At what point do you quit sinking money into the thing? I wanted to put bigger gears in and do a few other upgrades but I am questioning spending the money now because these other items need fixed.

Opinions, suggestions? Sell, keep, burn it?

Hard to say... you're going to have expenses with any vehicle you get. Do you have fun with the Jeep or do you only DD it? If you don't take it off-road I don't see the point in lifting it, etc.

Ultimately, I love my Jeep. Easy to work on, cheap, etc. I actually have fun driving it and I'm going to end up keeping it till it dies. It just isn't worth the 2-3k I'd get out of it if I sold it...

I do some off roading when I have time. I am in the process of building it to make it more capable so I can do a little more heavy wheeling with it eventually. I do love it but it is worse than being married. It is a gold digger...

I can fix all this stuff myself but every time I think about it I get so aggravated I just want to dump it. But then I think about all the work I have done to it and put in it.

What do you mean by this? The Jeep is not broken. It runs fine. It just has a bunch of pain the butt things that need to be fixed.

Heater core and evaporator coil means taking the dash out. Rear main seal means dropping the oil pan. The leaking water on the floor board? Not sure where to start on finding and fixing that.

So how do these items equate to operator error? This is just stuff that goes bad over time.

By not properly maintaining things. Operator error. If it breaks fix it. Don't wait and hope it fixes itself.

You can maintain things to a certain point then they just go bad. The vehicle has been maintained but it is 16 years old. Parts don't last forever.

Anyway, my original question was should I dump the money into fixing these items or just sell it and let someone else worry about it. That's what I wanted opinions on.

Nothing to argue about. You can't stop things from eventually wearing out. But your particular opinion was not what I was asking for (operator error).
