What would you bring?
I searched and didn't find this, so I thought I'd start one. Sorry if there is one out there and I missed it.
So, if you were in the unique position of talking to a noob who was thinking about heading out on a mild/moderate trail with some other less noobish enthusiasts, what would you tell this person to bring? Let's say they were driving a 97 sport with 200k and a 1.5 inch budget boost with some 30" inch store brand tires, like the one on the left there.
Full size spare, hi lift jack, water and a jacket are all kind of a given. What would you bring?

depends on where you are going wheeling. If you plan on wheeling in remote snowy areas, then a couple extra pairs of dry clothes, shovel, and a couple days of food are not bad. I have gotten stuck in 22" of snow 1.5 miles from a main road in the middle of the night and hiking out is not fun.
In general other good items to take are extra universal joints, water, oil, gear oil, some kind of rtv sealant, tool set, STRAPS, tires chains (for snow), spare tire, jack, gloves, jumper cables, some kind of straps or some rope, flashlight, batteries, and one thing I feel is very important: MATCHES. If you get stuck through the night having a fire is soooooo nice.
Thats about all I can think of right now. The level of wheeling and the remoteness of where you are going has an affect on what you should take.
Always prepare for the worse and hope for the best....and have fun

An open mind, good attitude and a willingness to learn!
I can't tell you how many times these things get forgotten and left at home by noobs and veterans.

In a long term trail ride scaling over a couple of days or so:
-shovel
-gas can
-spare tires (full size and skinny)
-water, Gatorade, bread
-knife and other assorted tools
-bag of potatoes and aluminum foil (work with me on this one...you can cook on your engine!)
-boots, spare clothes, sleeping bag and pillows.

Try to bring one of these, if nobody has a winch;
Torin Big Red 4-Ton Come-Along Cable Puller With 3 Hooks Tr8041 - Reviews & Prices @ Yahoo! Shopping
I got mine at Pep Boys for about $30.00
Or at least bring a cell phone so you can call someone if you need to.
Many times you get stuck for simple things like your front axle's vacuum system wasn't working due to a bad actuator or the plastic lines are cracked.
So no 4WD.
Try to make sure it's all working before you go.
