Default What is this thing?

I just bought a 1993 XJ about a week ago and am slowly fixing a long list of problems it has. I noticed this in the engine compartment. It's on the drivers side fender almost back at the fire wall. My 1994 XJ doesn't have one.

Ballast resistor, reduces voltage delivery to the fuel pump (9 to 11V range). Increases fuel pump longevity. You should carry a spare in case the resistor on the backside of the ceramic fractures and fails. No continuity will shut down your fuel pump. If it fails, In a pinch connect the two green wires to make it home.

Sweet! Thanks. Now that you mention it the fuel pump on this new XJ does make a noticable continuos hum. Hopefully that is just a quirk with it

Actually, it was put there to reduce fuel pump noise, not increase the pump's longevity.
