Well I got my sound bar finished up this weekend. Ended up getting some 6-1/2" 3 way Kenwood Component speakers. I will be posting my own DYI when I get some time. Havent decided on an amp yet. Not sure if I should go with a 5 channel or 4 channel and a mono amp for a sub... Thoughts/input ????

Dual XDMAR6720 CD/MP3 SD Bluetooth Head unit
Dual XPE2700 amp mounted under front passenger seat for sub
Polk DB651 6.5" Speakers in doors
Polk DB521 5.25" speakers in rear headliner
Kicker 6.5" CompVT sub mounted in self-built enclosure in rear cubby.
The Polks are awesome! Marine rated and great sound.
My sub install creates ZERO loss in rear cargo area floor space, and looks about as close to "factory" as anything I've seen.
Thanks to Amazon, I only spent about $450 for the whole system.

My Xj org. came with the factory premium sound system 6 speakers. (four 5.25"s, and 1' two tweeters. It probably sounded good back in 1991. But to me it sounded like a tin can) The org. two front door speakers, I replaced 5.25 full range 3-way. The org. two rear hatch 5.25 speakers, I replaced with 6x9 full range 3-way. (It took a little trimming to fit them) I used a 10" sub in the rear pocket. Made an enclosure to cover the opening. And I used the factory tweeters under the dash. All the other speakers are Rockford Fosgates. My amp is a 1400 watt 5-channel Pyle. My head unit does all the work, because I can tell each set of speakers what freq. they should receive. All the real low freq. go to the sub. The low to mid. freq. go to the 6x9's. And the mid to high freq. go to the 5.25's & tweeters. My head unit is a 12 year old unit (That back in 2000 listed for $1800, I bought a refurbished one about 6 yrs. ago for $450.) It's a Pioneer DEH-90 HDD, It has a 10 gig. hard drive in it. And can hold 160 hrs. of music. Any CD played in it, it records it to the hard drive. All the speaker grilles I painted to match the carpeting, And the sub enclosure is carpeted to match also. So nothing is really obvious to people looking in the car. Don't want to temp people. Google Pioneer DEH-90 HDD you can see the specs of it. From the head unit to the amp is six pairs of RCA cables. Those where a b***h to run. It take me a day just to put all the new wiring in, another day for the hardware.

Ill pitch in, Ive got an Alpine head unit, Pioneer 6.5's in the front, (no modification, however the stock grille had to be trimmed because the tweeter housing was hitting it), Kicker 3.5's under the dash, Pioneer 6.5's in the soundbar (no modification at all, this model actually had screw holes that worked well with 5.25 mounting holes
and Alpine 6.5's in the hatch. Had to drill new holes, but no big deal. Also got 2 10" RoFo sub in the back with a Jl amp. It's loud when I want it to be. Although i thoroughly agree with quality over quantity, the number of rattles and other sounds that comes from the Jeep when music is playing definitely negates this thought, for me at least.
