Default what size tow strap

ok so i havent seen anything on what size tow strap to get. my vehicle is strictly mud and here in south florida our mud is like soupy vacuum. northern sells a 2"x 20' strap for 20 bucks thats rated at 8500lbs. considering the curb weight is roughly 3000 will this be sufficient?

I like a 30 foot strap, gives you a chance to stay clear of the mud, snow, rock, what ever the problem is so you still can have decent traction. I also carry two straps because sometimes one isn't long enough. I personally like to have at least a 300% rated strap and a 200% rated winch, but that's just me.

ok i read that write up......very informative!! one more question. so if every inch is rated at 10000lbs of recovery is a 2 inch strap good for a 89 xj considering the curb weight is roughly 3000lbs?

It should be good. But you have to understand that although your Cherokee weight is about 3000 lbs if you are really stuck the rig pulling you out will need to leave some slack in the strap and hit it hard to get you moving, this will cause more than 3000 lbs to be excerted (spelling) on the recovery strap that is why I like the 300% rule of thumb. ( plus the towing rig may weigh 6000 lbs )
Something else you may want to think about is although every inch is worth 10000 lbs the way it is stitched may lower that weight rating some.
( The 3 inch straps I use are rated at 27000 lbs. and one of the tree straps I use is a 12 foot 3 inch that is rated at 27000 lbs. While the 6 foot 2 inch tree strap I use for my flat fender Jeep that weighs maybe 2200 lbs is only rated at 8500 lbs. )
