WOW. That is super clean and beautiful. That price is a bit high, but I can see why.

Did you make your purchase from a dealer?

A personal owned used car lot. (Not a new car lot that sells used cars.)

I'll second that.

This is at a dealership so unfortunately your going to pay a bit more than you would from off the street... But that is one clean xj. I wouldn't pay more than 4500 for the simple fact that one can be had for less on the street. But chances of finding one in that condition are slim.

If you can get it for 3500 then more power to ya! But I don't think a dealership would be willing to cut their price in half. Now if you had 3500 cash money then you might be talking. But since you said you have 1350 and are going to have to finance the rest you loose some leverage. Cash always talks

Also be mindful if this xj is at one of those "buy here pay here" things then they will want atleast half up front. And the payments will be through the roof. Yes you will pay it off fast. But that's up to you to decide. "buy here pay here" places are also more likely to be firm on the price. They will wait for the next goon to come that will pay sticker price. Rather than sell it to you at a "loss" even though most places like that get the vehicles for next to nothing at auctions, clean them up a bit and double their actual investment.

just check her over, looks really clean though! and not bad mileage either. I paid 4500 for my 01 with 102k miles and no rust (PA area). Always room to haggle and work something out though. Good luck!

I'd second the $4500. Clean? Yes. Worth $7,000? No way!

What if I can grab a loan from my bank for the additional $2500? Would it help?

As for haggling, I'm horrible at it. Can someone tell me things / specific ways to talk to salesman? What things to bring up?

I'm horrible at it too. I've gotten better over the years though. You just have to make it so they don't think your THAT interested in it. See i would be drooling all over it and they would know that I'm hooked.

Tell them like it is. I have 1350 to put down on it and the most I'm paying is 4500. If they don't want to go that low than sadly the search continues. This is why I hate dealing with the dealership.

If your going to take a loan out.. First go the dealer and haggle on the price. Tell them you have cash and you'll pay 4500. Then you go to the credit bureau and get a vehicle loan for 4500. That will pay the dealer off and take them out of the equation. You would then make your payments to the credit bureau. Most times it actually works out better that way. Keep your 1350 and set it aside to make the payments. Then you know you have a $1350 bubble.

If you do work out a price with the dealer that your Ok with get the exact amount it would be out the door. Taxes, tags everything. Then get the loan in that amount. The credit bureau will give you a check for the amount. And the jeep will be yours. I did this exact thing for a jeep in the past. Payments worked out to be 77/month but I payed more just to get it done and over with.

This is all assuming you can get approved for a 4500 loan...
