Preferably one that's still in production.
I need one, and there's sooo many models out there, I want to get some opinions from people who actually have them. Preferably a model that can remember waypoints so I can record trails.

I have an E-trex Legend... I really am not thrilled about its under canopy performance. My kids and I play around in the summer doing Geo-caching and it seems to lose track at a critical point about 40 or 50% of the time.

Garmin GPS60csx.
Its a great one, with a vibrant display and easy to use features.
Its not just bare bones, so if you just want something to record waypoints get something simpler. This has barometric altimeter, electronic compass, and detailed maps to view.
I really love it. I actually appreciate how its not touch screen like the newer Colorado model, as using a touch screen with gloves or whatever is dang hard. Buttons won't fail like a screen might. strong signal everywhere, gotta love this thing. Garmin makes great products.

I was certainly looking at the GPS60CSX. Looked like a really great model, but my luck I'd buy it and find out it was a pile of turds. :-/

have you seen those Astro or Rhino series ones? Those things are sweet.
You can track your dogs or have a visual picture of where your buddies are when they radio in. that'd be awesome.
anyway, yeah I'd stand behind the GPS60csx. Willing to answer questions about it too.

i have a map60csx also. i can't say enough about garmin when it comes to gps. there's nothing better.
i've had a top of the line magellan triton. i returned it a week later.
i also have a lowrance, it's a good unit too, but pales in comparison to the 60.
the only downfall, and it's moot, that the map60 has is it only stores 10 tracks. even with a memory card. unless i haven't figured it out yet. but i've had it for a few years now.
i wouldn't replace it for anything other than another garmin.
i have 3 gps units, a street nav nuvi for the street, the map60 for the trails and an etrex for the mtb.

Mapquest.... and if I fold it up just right, it will almost fit in my palm. I had been looking for a GPS but I cant break down for one just yet. I want to get the leaks and crap done first.
