Ok so I have a 2000 Cherokee sport With 212,xxx miles on it. I am the victim of the notorious cracked head. The jeep is still running now and I'm undecided on what I want to do. I'd be willing to sell but I'm not sure what to ask for it in this condition. The body is in great shape and everything electrical is in perfect working condition. So my question to you all Is do I fork up a couple grand and replace the motor or just put it up for sale on the market and see what I can get. thanks for the input In advanced.
People that don't know jeeps the 200k will scare them off it.And the ones that know jeeps will know it has the head that can crack so they will low ball you on the price.
Yeah got to be honest about the head, but my thinking is that if something runs it's worth 1k.
If all else is well, I'd think that for $1500-2000 you would have a decent vehicle for several more years.
Money in the bank.
Yea If I were to sell I would make sure the buyer knows the issue with the head. I''ve even considered pulling the motor and getting a reman And starting fresh. Any recommendations on a good company for a remanufactured engine? Don't want to buy the cheapest one and have something be wrong with it. If I could figure out how to post a picture I'd show you guys the condition of the jeep. It's all stock with minimal rust on the passanger side rocker and that's good considering I live in Ny
I had them break mine in on the engine dyno. It came in at 274 HP. You think your Jeep was fun before?
Plus it has a 100K mile warranty. I fully expect to get 250K miles or more out of it.
I have the same engine. To buy a reman is about 1600 anyways... I have a few thousand miles on my Golen now- It has been great! Only semi-bad part is you have to run premium fuel.
You could grab a 4.0 pretty cheap though if you went to a JY/craigslist. I sold mine for 500$ in excellent condition.
Haha that stroker would be really nice but it's defiantly out of my price range. And as for the desel swap I deff. Don't have the knowledge to complete that project haha. So I think I'm going to lean towards a reman 4.0 and just do the swap myself at home. For anyone that's done the swap already how difficult would you say it is? I am pretty good with a wrench just unfamiliar with jeeps.
That's a great looking Cherokee! I'd keep it. Replacing the engine is way cheaper than payments on a new vehicle. And if you've owned this for a while, you know it bumper to bumper. If you buy something used, it may have more problems than what you have now. :-)
