What direction should I go?
Ok, I am WAY speculating into the future here, but one can dream right?
After I do my V8 swap into my current '91 XJ, I will be doing a 4bt cummins swap into another Jeep vehicle. Here's the delimma.
I was gonna go with an MJ Comanche for the 4bt because I def want a pickup, and I love the body style of the Comanche/Cherokee. BUT, I am what you might call tall and round (6' 2" tall, and lotsa pounds). I have heard (and by the looks of it seen) that the Comanche is not tall nor fat guy friendly. SO, if this was the case, my solution?
Chopped 2 dr XJ!
Oh yes, and with the front setup being the same for engine mounting, my source for custom mounts should still work. I would reinforce the rear end of the XJ, since I know these unibodies don't like being tweaked. I'm thinking rear bars. Plate the unibody rails for strength, and then go to town with a tuned 200 hp 350 or more torque 4bta cummins with a water/methanol setup. The ballpark of 30 mpg highway is nice (that's what a guy with a 4bt MJ is getting... and he's at about 7 inches of lift on 33's).
So, with my physical size in mind, should I plan on a chopped 2 dr XJ or will a Comanche suffice?
Edit: Actually, after further research, 200 hp and 400 ft lb torque is more like it.
