I paid about $4,500 for my 2001 XJ with just over 113,000 miles or so on it.
I did add everything up on it just a few weeks ago after I stashed all of my receipts in one folder lol.
Total invested into my jeep without the added cost of buying the jeep is around $23,000 for a grand total of around $27,500, plus the cost of buying some parts. This was all in the last 3 months or so since I bought it around June of this year.
I had it professionally appraised for $19,230 by a guy who appraises show cars.
It would be interesting to know where the $23K investment was utilized. I'm embarking on a new project, I think. I really don't have an idea of what the grand total will be, but chicken scratching on a napkin I come up with about $15K, not including the equipment I need to buy to be able to do all the chassis, driveline, body and paint work.
I don't plan on farming much, if any, of the work out. If I can find a body shop that will reasonably fix the dents in the rear quarters and one rocker panel, I may pay to have that done to primer.
I'm thinking at the end I'll have $20K invested in a Jeep worth about $6K, lol. Your appraisal sounds promising if it can actually be realized in a sale.
Raw numbers are pretty pointless without extreme details on rigs this old.
We paid fair rates for ours but had to do a 1500 mile RT for the 2000 XJ Freedom.
Was worth going to Colorado for the clean ride.
We had five figures worth of fun with in the first 5000 miles and do not have half of that amount in it.

$2,500 @ 205K miles years and years ago. I got it from one of my co-workers at this auto shop I worked at, he put in a new windshield, got the hood and trunk professionally repainted, OEM alternator etc.. He probably put 1K into it. So I think that's a great deal for what I paid. Currently have about 10K + invested into it.
Still paying for it and damned happy to do so.
Stock alternator went 295k
Stock idler pulley went 335k
Stock starter went 345k
Stock ignition switch went 351k
* Let's not mention fuel pump at all right now though it is on my mind..

Judith the Jeep purchase, and miles
I picked Judith up with 77,828miles for $4,500 (traded a Ranger I had bought for $4,500 straight across). Judith now has 199,xxx miles over the course 6 years, so 122,000 miles from all our adventures. Totally worth it.
The day I went to the dealership 6 hours away to work a deal. Traded the ford ranger I had bought for $4,500 straight across for Judith. We still get out once a week to get some two track therapy. Judith has become an iconic part of our life. From the home sweet homeless road trip, to becoming a local guide. Judith does it all.

That sure looks like a rare Freedom model.
Looks like it has the 16" wheels and the door trim delete, anyhow.
The chrome grill could have been replaced or painted.
If so it is one of less than 2900 built. The rarest of the rare.
Stocked out and restored it could pull 20k+ easily.

I just bought mine last month! I paid 2,000 in the Seattle area for a 86' 2-door w/210,000 miles that is stock (aside from the radio). It also came with studded tires on AMC rims and snow tires on AMC rims. Pretty happy with it!

1 of 283 in Solar yellow for the year. It is a freedom edition, It had a chrome grill that had been sprayed black. It was a 1 owner that I had found. It had the ICONS, nut I eventually sold those. Ran old turbines for awhile, then some common mag style wheel, and now onto Vision beadlocks.
