Paid $500 for my 96 SE... 200k and on its third motor (don't ask me how the PO managed that).

Needed its whole stock suspension replaced... which was good because I knew I was lifting it.

Leaks oil like the Exxon Valdez (and this motor is only 2 years old). The guy must have gone to some cheesy rip-off shop to get a replacement motor? I have his receipt for 3500 dollars of parts and labor. So rear main, oil pan gasket, and valve cover are in the works.

Bald tires... no problem because I got 33's now.

Other than that it’s was pretty solid.

When i got my XJ it was completely stock, but the PO had put velcro strips all over the inside. Like one for the stereo remote and one for their cell phone holder and an air freshner... stuff like that. There was like 20 of them all over. It was a pain in th @ss to get rid of them

A fire extinguisher mount and a big NO SMOKING sign stuck on the dash. My friend and my theory is that it belonged to someone who did tours or in some way carried multiple people.

Mine came with a whole list of nic nac hidden problems. To start off the plugs and wires were completely shot, and the carb was set to idle to low. Later on the same day after the tune up, I find the bushings for all of the control arms are worn out severely, and on the way to the parts store, the linkage to the tcase came undone slipping the case into neutral. Added to my problems yesterday, the pressure line for my power steering popped on me, special order only, and this morning the starter starts showing signs of starting to fail... Will keep you posted hahaha

I got a '98 sport wit 184000 on the 4.0 for $2500. lighter, back wiper and door locks not working. BUT..... Interior floor herculined, 3" rusty's lift (front springs, rear AAL), chopped fenders to fit the BFG 33's, front ZJ sway bar, ipod ready stereo (that won't play cds), a high-lift jack w, bumper attachment, base plate and foam handle spacer, HD front & rear diff covers, HD t-case armor, 2 giant foglights (too big!), full spare on match amr racing rim, the old wheel well molding and front bumper caps, and feet for a thule roof rack ( I happened to have the bars for it!), plus a few more odds-n-ends like spare (old) radiator hose and serp belt, door trim, maybe something else, but I think i did ok, no?

The P.O. of the 88 left me with:
A crappy cd player with no volume control
No carpet
3 shocks
bald 31s
Horrible paint
Rust holes
4.5'' Rough Country Lift
Decent AR aluminum wheels
Chrysler 8.25 swapped in
New alternator
Worn out power steering pump
Badly trimmed fenders and quarters.

Most of it's been fixed but still needs more TLC.

The 97:
Cracked exhaust manifold
Trashed rear shocks
Sagging rear springs
30x9.50 retreads that sucked
No radio
Rusted out rockers
Bad U joints everywhere
Broken hatch handle
Rear doors that only work when they want to
Drivers side door wont open with the key when locked
Needed an oil change badly
Bald spare tire of the wrong size
I'm sure there was more but it's been fixed and still hammering away with over 300K on it.

Creaking noises from the rear that never go away
The wrong kind of oil in the rear LSD so it made awful noises until I changed it.
