I spent most of the day yesterday installing a tranny fluid cooler and an external tranny fluid filter. They are in and look great, but I ran out of daylight to finish the electricals. Why do cheap relays you get from overseas never follow logical wire colors? I swear these things are absolutely backwards from what I think they should be.
I didn't do this in one day but I finally made the conversion from aftermarket bumper to factory. And I washed it for the first time since I owned it!
WOW! That looks so much nicer and getting rid of those ugly LED headlights as well makes a huge improvement. I just ditched my LED'S for Halogen (huge improvementin looks and beam pattern), but keeping my aftermarket bumper because it's not in your face and doubles as a tow bar base using the d rings.
Love the H4 Projectors that came with the rig when we bought it.
Finally polished them up. #Morimoto Right at 360k miles. Still 21-24 mpg at this altitude. ~2400 meters XJ Freedom

Finally got my engine refresh completed today! What's funny is this was supposed to be a quick re-seal and slap in, but I got out of control and kept buying parts lol I didn't do much internal other than the oil pump, Harlem rockers, new push rods and timing chain. Engine has about 110K on it and ran great before pulled, so no need to replace anything else. Hopefully I can get 200K out of this and I'll go ahead and do a full rebuild on my old motor to keep as a backup. Next up is transfer case and new drive shaft. I probably should make a build thread lol
** Also can someone tell me how to make the images smaller? This forum like blows them up even if I re-size them smaller it still comes out huge lol
Sounds like that may be a setting within the forum options.
Well for my first post here … what I did today was supposed to be a fluid change in the recently purchased 96’ sport….
I decided to see how bad the fuel looked….as it has not ran in over 2yrs per the previous owner.
was I in a for a surprise…. Tank is getting dropped tomorrow now…. And that is supposed to be gas in the jar….

I replaced the passenger side front axle u joint today. It has slowly gotten really really bad and was making horrible noises. While I was at it, I replaced the wheel bearing since it had to come out anyway. For the u joint u went with Spicer and the wheel bearing is a Timken. I cleaned up the mounting surface and gave it a quick shot of paint. I'm very pleased with the outcome
All torn apart Axle shaft out, getting ready to replace old u joint Nice, new, Spicer u joint All painted up and put back together, minus the bolts
I dropped the tank and got that milky substance acting as gas all out (see yesterday’s pic above) turns out it’s not the original tank or sending unit….good news for me and the tank looked good on inside inside … so no new fuel system except for the fuel filter…. Got her all out back together
First drive in the 97 4.0 Auto 231 with RE 3.5 lift . Took badly rusted one owner 2 Dr I had and re-bodied with this no rust dry western shell I got in 2016. Way more work than I anticipated but I think it will be worth it. Lots of inspiration here on the forum ! Thanks to all
P/S Pump bearings exploded and spat out all the fluid on a 550 mile trip yesterday. I heard a little chirping when I set out, but thought it would make it... I thought wrong.
I was 130 miles from home, luckily found a parts store open 9 minutes away from where I stopped, made it there very loudly... Got some funny looks lol. 1.5 hour parking lot repair and I was back on the road.
I couldn't flush the system out, but looks like most (if not all) of the metal shavings were spit out, not sucked in. We'll see how it does, but it's operating silently at the moment.
Wasn't thinking about taking pics at the time, but the pulley and shaft just fell right out of the pump.
Finally saved up enough for new shoes.. just in time.... good thing because I was down to no spare and 4 pretty dry and cracked ones on it. Now she's good for a few more years hopefully
Since I finished getting the outside paint looking as good as I could for a 23 year old Jeep that has seen a hard life, I have moved to the interior. I have taken out the interior at this point and will be working from back to front. I cleaned up inside the rear fender wells, primed, painted and sprayed some internal frame coating on them. I only got a pic of the paint and coating. I need to remember to take more pictures.
And yes, I found some rust under the front passenger side carpet. It appears to be surface only at this point but I will know once I take to sanding it off. I know those are suspected areas of rust, but I was hoping that being from Texas, it wouldn't have any rust. I'm a little disappointed but I can fix it. I just need to decide how I'm going to repair: sand, naval jelly, clean, fill any pock marks, etch, prime for sure. But what after? Factory color paint? Bedliner? POR15?
