At least your not like most on there that don't realize it's the FB page for an ACTUAL forum. lolDROOL.....The 242 works better in combination with LSD. check the Junk yards for Volvos. You can find info on what to look for in this thread/video https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f59/vo...er-d30-203075/

With a 242 you should have an LSD or a selectable locker. The entire point of an NP242 is to allow all wheels to turn at different speeds, for reliable operation without binding on a varying surface, traction on ice, and prevent over/understeer when one tire inevitable breaks loose. Not a big deal to do a rear auto locker with a 242 but in the front you might as well get an NP231
No, I don't lick fish.

Here's a video demonstrating the Quadradrive system.... works beautifully with LSDs

Ok. I will look into that then. My main reason for switching was to ditch the full time 4x4 and have 2wd option. If I had found a 231 cheap I would have grabbed it, but I found this 242 for $75 already pulled out so I grabbed it

Did you route the belt correctly and make sure it's tight enough?
Right on.

That GC was kickin ***! The 4runner on the other hand..... pretty pathetic. Thing had ZERO power. But no worries, it's got a giant "TURBO" emblem on it.

lol... Yeah diesels aren't so great in the sand and mud where you need wheel speed. Even the pick up truck was struggling though. I saw that video and was extremely impressed with the WJ's Quadradrive system. Hard not to be, really.

My main reason for getting a locker is that I do more crawling than mud and sand, honestly I avoid mud at all costs! Mud = broken parts from my experience. But I will def look into LSD options.

Keep in mind, LSD will generaly not help you if you lift a tire... unless you increase the friction in the clutch packs by adding more discs in. So if you're doing it for crawling and not sand or mud, you'll want a locker, not lsd.

The other problem with LSD on rocks is that you don't get the extra traction until one tire is already spinning. I have Detroit TrueTrac units in both axles, and I had to reluctantly admit it was the wrong choice for rock crawling. I'm not upset because of the price I paid, but I'll definitely get selectable lockers with my next axle swap

selectables are the "Ferrari" of the locker world. And once you've had them, it's hard to go back to anything else.

Yea, that was my thought process. The LSD in the rear axle helped but I had to power brake the **** out of it.
