Got the Jeep running again after it had been sitting a few weeks! Then I removed the ski rack and luggage rack just for the hell of it. Ski season is over and I never use the luggage rack. I like the look.

Before, with the ski rack and luggage rack:

Parked it temporarily in order to drive my Honda CRV that is falling into disuse. Still feels like leaving a friend behind, even if only for a couple of days.

changed both O2 sensors this morning. What pain in the butt the front one was. I hope this keeps my check engine light at bay.

Cooper AT3 tires have been sounding like mud tires. Tread looked good, tire pressure did not affect noise. Ruled out wheel bearings (none made excessive heat).
Checked toe-in with painters stick and it was toe-out by 1/16 or more. Made the adjustment, 1/16" toe-in and tires are quiet again.

Started actually pulling out the transfer case this morning, only 2 more nuts to go. Apparently Chrysler meant for the exhaust to be pulled before dropping the TC since even my shortest 14mm stubby was too long. Ended up buying a cheap wrench and cutting it down to clear the exhaust pipe.

Hope to have the TC on the bench in the next 1-2 hours. The slow down will be getting it out from under the Jeep. My transmission jack adapter is a little on the tall side and it looks like I will be 2 inches shy of just rolling it out and I already have the jeep up as high as my jack stands will go This could be a case of putting the TC on my chest and rolling out on the creeper

That's how I always do it lol. In the flip side, my Wrangler is so tall that I set my transmission on a 6x6, on a floor jack, and rolled it all under the frame at once. But the jack wouldn't reach the block...

First time I pulled a TC i bought a 14mm ratcheting stubby wrench. Its the only thing I've ever used it for, but I can't imagine using a regular wrench in such a tiny space.

It is a case of the Princess Auto transmission jack adapter being too tall. I figure I can get another 1.5-2" of clearance with an angle grinder and a bit of welding. I managed to get it out on the jack though. Once I got the studs clear of the transmission and everything dropped down I just had to finesse it under the frame rail. I will be modifying the adapter before I put the TC back in.

My ratcheting stubby was about 1/2" too long, that is why I bought the cheap $3 box end and cut it to length. I am positive that the person that put the TC on the transmission did it with both outside the Jeep because there was no way to get the flats to line up with the wrench thanks to the interference. The reason I know that is because I was the last person to do do it I swapped out the transmission because I broke the manual shift valve shaft. The part is no longer available and I had to buy a used transmission. I figured why waste time pulling the valve body just to change a shaft when I can just swap the transmission. I also didn't have the exhaust in at the time

Any how, it is out and sitting in the driveway. Just gave it a quick scrub to get most of the gunk off it and am letting it air dry a bit before putting it on the bench and starting the overhaul. I need to run out and buy some brake clean and a shallow pan to do the work on.
