I went this route on mine earlier this year. It looks good if your just wanting to ditch the gray cladding. I went back to the gray eventually because it was a little flashy

Just an idea

my zj is the exact same color as yours. I don't know which I like best. Gray or black. Any pix with the gray. And what did you use for the gray?

Pulled out the blown power steering pump after work. Took about 40 minutes from start to finish, including finding the tools and putting them away once I was done. Could have done it faster, but the pulley and shaft were far enough forward that i couldn't get the e-fan out of the way so I could get a clear shot at the idler pulley/tension lock bolt.

Belt is in good shape, no real wear on it, and no cuts. The shaft and pulley must have shifted just as I shut it down. I need to clean the PS fluid off it, and I still have the cheap Canadian Tire belt I threw on it as a stop gap till the good belt came in.

Tomorrow will be the hard one. The only junkyards in my area are 30 miles east and west of me. One is a small family owned place, but they couldn't tell me if they had a Jeep 4.0l vehicle in the yard that has a pump. The other is a Kenny-U-Pull and they wont tell you if they have what you want over the phone. Actually you can't even talk to a person, you just get a mechanical voice saying you have to come to the yard and look to see if they have what you want, and they charge you $2 to get in so you can go look. Needless to say I am heading to the small family operated one first because I am not going to pay someone to go look at wrecks unless it is my last hope.

I love the green.

I got the black limited cladding and slapped it on there.. And I never truly loved it. I took it off and went back to the gray. It was just too flashy for my taste, but that's just me.

Old picture, but hasn't changed much. I've never used anything for the gray, I just let it do its thing lol.

The one flashy thing that I do want is a 5.9 grill in silver

and if I didn't quite answer your Q, that is limited cladding from a black ZJ, I never painted anything. I don't think painting the gray would look clean.

ice never had good luck with plastidip, it holds mud, if you just use it on paint without sanding it doesn't stick all that great, and if you take it offroad you'll likely scratch some off on sticks or tree branches.

Yeah, it's rubberized.

Yeah, you always sand a surface before you coat it with anything.

Yeah, it's designed to peel off after temporary use.

Plastidip has become this phenomenal trend throughout the automotive world because people don't understand what it is. Somewhere, word started getting around that it's easy to use because you can paint stuff without doing any prep, and it suddenly spread like wildfire among the ignorant masses. Not to mention everyone thinks it's the coolest looking stuff ever because they've never heard of flat or semigloss spray paint.

It's one of those things I hate cause it's popular for no reason. I'm tired of Jeeps being trendy.

I've plasti dipped a bunch of cars. The last Cherokee I had it rinolined. The entire exterior. Way too expensive. I'm doing plasti dip. I don't use the spray can stuff. I buy the good stuff. By the gallon. Spray it on with air sprayer. A tree limb would really have to gouge it hard to scrape it off.

In doing it because it's cheap. And my paint looks like ****. I'm not spending a ton of money on a 900 dollar jeep it's a jeep. Not a Benz. I completely understand what it is. Sorry you don't like it. That's your taste. It's going to cover all my oxidized paint and scratches just fine
