Snow on the ground, still can't move the Cherokee into the garage to work on it, and it is supposed to snow more today.
Will it start in neutral?

I did this to temporarily let me start my Jeep until I fix the NSS......that was 4 years ago, still works great.

They say it's not safe but Jeep has yet to burst into flames and explode so I'm good.

Got my spare out from storage and getting ready to go back to school tomorrow. I got my spare because i found a rare XJ part on craigslist that's on my way to school for a nice deal, can anyone guess the part!? Also while looking at my rear bumper (hint) i realized that 26 years of road salt affected the rear bumper brackets the most leaving one in a good condition and the other only half there (top part), so i'll need to replace that soon.

You are correct haha the old style that bolts to the quarter panel. It's been cleaned with a new paint job and everything is included to install

That bypasses the relay so you are going from 12 gauge to the starter solenoid relay to 14 gauge right through your ignition. The solenoid is rated to pull 40 amps (not that it draws that much) and 12 gauge is rated for 41 amps DC. 14 gauge is rated for 32 amps but I don't know what the ignition switch is rated for. Worse case is you burn up your ignition contacts eventually. Connections or contacts are usually the weakest link (I may try what you did tomorrow just to see if I can start mine). That 40 amp circuit breaker right below your wire is for the starter solenoid.

I am going a different route. I picked up a 40amp 12 VDC push button switch (about 10 bucks at O'Reilly auto parts) and I am going to wire it from the battery plus side to the wire coming from the solenoid with 12 gauge wire. When the weather gets better I will see if I can pull the NSS and clean it up. Frustrating not being able to start the beastie.
