What did you do to your Cherokee today?
started yesterday pulling my dash apart to get to my heater core. today its raining so couch potato, but also yesterday when i took a cig break i tinted my tail lights, corners, and front blinkers.

by the look of the mounting surface for the starter i bet that's your issue. The starter uses the engine block as a ground point - if the surfaces are gunked up, the connection is going to suck. The starter needs to pull a LOT of amps to work so any poor connection in the line is going to mess things up. Try cleaning both the block and starter mating surfaces up really good, and make them shiny with a piece of sandpaper, then reinstall. (((Ask me how i know this...

mine was at a point where it was cranking REALLY slow, and it got steadily worse till it finally wouldn't crank any more. Now it starts cranks really fast and starts right up in under a second.

My old one sounded great. I got this one used at a great price, and decided to install and see if it helped with my starting issue. By the time I got back to my apartment from classic's place, my old starter was gone. This one cranks crazy slow, but it was incredibly filthy when I put it on. Course of action: Clean both surfaces, scuff them shiny, and reinstall.
