Question Help with buying an XJ

Hello,

I am looking to buy an xj and I was wondering what I should look for specifically and what to specifically stay away from. I am a wrangler guy that is sort of mechanically inclined and do simple modifications myself (bumpers, lights and wiring, winch, radio, etc...) really just some of the simple things, but don't really know my way around an engine too well. I can change oil and do simple tasks, but I am not very skilled with that type of stuff. Which brings me to an XJ that I like and the owner seems to have taken pretty good care of it. Its an 89 Laredo and he has done some upgrades to it. His description

"1989 Cherokee XJ Laredo. 4.0 inline 6, Renix years. This has been my daily driver for 6 years and is great, a ton of work was done on it to make that possible.
Closed coolant system converted to more modern open cooling system. Grand Cherokee brake booster and grand Cherokee rear disc brakes to replace drums. All stainless brake lines anbout 5 years ago. Over-bored throttle body. NP242 transfer case. Synthetic oil, optima red top. Aftermarket JCR front bumper with working leds (bright!) wired into the fog lights switch.
So many more things I don’t even know what to list, but if you have questions ask. It has passed inspection every year, but it currently has an exhaust leak that will need to be fixed and at least new read discs and pads (front are basically new). Title in hand, this is a really fair price to sell it for. That said, I’d really like to sell it to a Jeep person or someone who has previous experience with older cars."

I guess my question is... Should I be looking into the Renix engine or should I stay away and look for a Chrysler model. I had an 03 TJ with the 4.0 and never had an issue with it. I plan on keeping the XJ pretty stock and using it as a daily driver without wheeling it. I am just hesitant because I see many talking about how the Renix is great and some say to stay away. Just wondering your thoughts? Any input helps

Nothing wrong with
Renix at all. I have a website dedicated to the Renix Jeeps.

I don't think there's much of an issue with the Renix 4.0's vs. the Chrysler 4.0's. I'd go for it if you go to look at it and everything checks out.
