Default Weird electrial problem

On Thursday I was driving & noticed smoke coming out of my far left air vent then my dash lights ac lights shifter lights & all the rest that come on when you turn your lights on not working anymore.

Got home saw the fuze blew so I replaced it with a 30 amp. Should be a 5.

This morning on the way to school they started acting funny. Smelled like melted plastic, then see smoke coming out of vent again. But now the lights are on they are just very time as if you turned the switch to make then dimmer.
I went to try & turn it to make them brighter & they just turn off.

Thinking it could be wiring or just need a new head light switch ?

First of whats the fuse for that you replaced, the dash lights you are saying? And just to warn you should never replace a fuse with an higher amp fuse, if it blows you have a probably and by installing an higher amp fuse your just asking for an fire. It could be the switch, mine completely melted and was causing dash lights go in and out and same with my headlights.

No worries man, just didn't know if you were aware of what could happen. Just don't want you to be out of a jeep you know. Your best bet would be to pull up a wiring diagram for your lights and start tracing wires, not sure about the 97 and up but if the switch is easy to get too, drop it there and check the wires there first and then go from there.

Really?? Let's see the fuse rating was set to 5 amps to protect the equipment. The 5 amp fuse blew so you replaced it with one 6 times the oem specifications!?!?! Smoke and burning smells. Yeah of course there's a wiring problem now. You'll be lucky if you don't have to replace most of the circuit, lights and switch included. And you may have damaged other circuits as well. Hopefully you've at least taken the 30A fuse out.
