New to the scene and have started looking for a Jeep Cherokee. I'm primary looking for something that will run well, get me around in the winter, and something to take camping and hunting.

I'll be honest. I don't anything about year and models, but am mechanically minded and have a neighbor with a CJ8.

I'm love some pointers on what to look for and be leary of. I'm leaning towards something that has some sort of lift already done to it, but definitely nothing extreme. $2500 price range isn't going to get me much, but I don't want much. Just something to drive in the winter and get around off road in.

you would be suprised what 2500 bucks will get you with a cherokee (XJ)

as far as one thats lifted, yea it may be kinda hard to find one in that range that looks clean with low miles, but, a stock XJ as new as a 98 or so with 150k or so miles that runs great, you should be able to find one for the 2500 fairly easy

now the ones you put up links for, i cant find the years on them in the info, but the black one is newer then the grey one, but it doesnt look any newer then a 94, bc from what i could see, it didnt look like it had an airbag steering wheel, which they started putting them in the XJ in 95....so that black XJ im guessing is a 93 or 94 bc in 92 they had a different trim in a way on the sport package....not much of a difference, but some

and the grey one looks like a laredo which the last year for a laredo XJ was in 92....and id say the one there is probably like a 89 or 90
