Does anyone here know how good or bad the 80s VM Motori diesel Jeeps were? Like I've always heard if you get a Cherokee you have to get the 4.0 liter because all the other engines are turds. Granted I know this is true or the 2.8 GM V-6, and I know that the 2.5 liter straight for while not a turd was just underpowered, but I generally and interested in the reliability and upgrade potential for the VM motori 2.5 liter diesel, and potentially a swap to the 2.8 crd from the KJ Liberty.

It all spawns from the back and forth discussion I have with my wife every few months about getting another vehicle. We have discussed things like Toyota Tacomas and Dodge Rams because we need a quad cabs at least for our son to ride in the back... But the thought of a amazing fuel efficient diesel Cherokee or Comanche has always been in the back of my mind.
