Wondered what people thought about vinyl wrapping. I have seen some neat stuff done with camo and other patterns. I was considering saving myself some bad painting in the driveway. Anyone know if it holds up? Thoughts and pics would be appreciated.

I looked into it when i was deciding whether or not to paint... $1,000 for a **** Maaco job.... and at least $1,000 for a wrap from the local places.

ended up doing a rattle can touch up. usual burnt paint on the front and rear edges of roof, bumpers, mirrors and side panels. the spray paint worked amazingly well and you cannot tell it was repainted. Except the hood...too big of an area to do a decent rattle can --at least for the amount of effort I was willing to put in. I was going to use the plastic spray paint for the panels but the forest green pearl looked so good after--even with 19 years on the original paint I said forget it.

You could probably buy a compressor and spray gun for the cost of the vinyl wrap. But back in High school, Some one had an Olds station wagon done brick contact paper.

Here it is on a cherokee. I'd definitely want to do it with the black extensions. Aside from it not being a 2000 and wanting a lighter print, this is alot like i'd be aiming at.


I have been seeing some pics where solid color vinyl makes for a nice even matte finish.

I got a friend who does this for a living (vinyl wrapping). I asked him about it a while ago. He said that the stuff doesn't hold up well to being scratched. So tree branches would probably pose a problem.

Like I said that was a while ago vinyl for wrapping may be made better now, dunno.

Would look cool with a digital camo though.

You put a tear in it and you're ****ed. I'm sure one rub against a tree would screw it up. With paint you can respray and it doesn't look as bad if it's scratched up.

You'd be shocked how much it costs to do. Thought about doing my pickup (90 Dakota, single cab long bed) a while back until I got a $2000 minimum quote on it.

I wouldnt say your screwd if you scratch it b/c your only replacing that one damaged area. A friend of mine in Miami wrapped his civic matte black and got into alil fender bender and fixed the body work and rewrapped the front fender him self.

Peel it off, half azz bondo job re-wrap.

Come spring time, Im wrapping mine. I love the "trailhawk" white Jeep edition color scheme.

Look into Plasti Dip. Much cheaper than vinyl wrap, you can touch it up anytime you want and peal it off when your bored with it.

Plasti dip is awesome you guys really should look into it. I've done rims, badges, and whole cars in it. If you get a damaged panel or you just don't want it on there anymore you just peel it off. It will keep the paint underneath prestored.

I have already done my badges in flat black plasti dip. And I'm going to do my rockers and rear quarter in it as well. It's so much better than regular paint bc once you put it on its permanent. With the plasti dip you can pull it right off easily and re spray a different color or whatever you want. They sell a whole kit with a sprayer and everything which has quarts or gallons of it. Or recently they came out with all kinds of colors in rattle cans. That's what I have used. It works really well.


You'll probably have to order it online. The only store I found that had it locally was ace Hardware and they didn't have much of a selection. I got mine for 14.99 a can. It's kinda pricey but the stuff goes a LONG way. I painted 4 subaru wrx wheels. All the badges on the subi, all the badges on a 2012 ram, and all the badges on my xj with 1 and a half can.

One of the guys in my club did his JK over a month ago, still holding up. It will just peel off when he's bored of it.
