vehicle recovery towing with chain ???
There's a difference between recover and towing chains although most people will just parrot 'chains bad, straps good' at you because they read it on the internet.
Towing chains are meant for just that, towing, not recovery. They should never be yanked on or put under more load than they're rated for.
Recovery chains are class rated and fine for recovery so long as they're properly rated for what you're pulling and outside forces that increase the load you're pulling. If you're using the proper class chain to recovery you're never going to break it and other parts will give before the chain does.
Either way, straps are still the safest route and don't just take opinions off of random people on the internet. Do some real research, you're dealing with forces that can literally kill or permanently injure someone.

Best excuse yet.
A chain is very handy. I wont wheel without one.
I wheel carrying a 20' log chain, 20' cable, 30' recovery strap, and a high lift jack. And a couple heavy duty rachet straps.
People are dangerous, not chains, not straps, not high lift jacks, and not jeeps.
