My bad, just having a bit of fun, you are well respected here by those who know. Well said in your second quote.
If I were performing a non-diesel engine swap in a XJ...I'd go with the 4.2 I6 GM put in the Trailvoy platform. It's the only 275 hp factory I6 that was offered by the big 3 with under 5L of displacement. Even came in a super charged version...

God-Like?
I've been a member her a lot longer than I've been a vendor.
I'm also a guy that drives a modified (Re: Customized) XJ with....GASP!...A Chevy motor in it.
This forum is full of folks that build their rigs in a variety of ways using parts from many other vehicle manufacturers. Yep....they use non-Jeep parts. Heathens...every smelly one of 'em!

Same here, but some people though, I've met quite a few and they hate anyone whos better in any way possible. Dumb logic but hey maybe Darwin's theory will prove itself
if I was dead set on a v8 swap I'd go with a lsx in a heartbeat. 2x the power, virtually unlimited tuning capabilities with the factory ecu, excellent mileage and longevity comparable to the 4.0 i6 all come to mind.
personally I'd do an atlas (gm i6 from trailblazer etc) because you'd get the same tuning abilities in an inline engine. the 08+ I believe are AL block, to boot. I think it'd be an easier swap simplifying motor mounting and exhaust routing. I <3 the new gm stuff. had a few lsex vehicles myself.
however. what makes a jeep a jeep IMHO is the simplicity and cheap maintenance. I love this jeep as a dd. I'll attempt an atlas swap when this motor goes south. but being real about it - I have a lot of knowledge on gm swaps and a healthy income. so a few thousand bucks to swap this over would be well worth it for me.

I watched an episode of Road Kill on the you tubes where they did a 427 LS motor swap in the Hot Rod Magazine Crusher Camaro. It had 700 horsepower and ran low 10's on the quarter mile, they still got an average of 17mpg. I get about 16mpg and do the quarter in about 37 minutes with my ZJ.
