Why, it's still a 6 cylinder.
The HP gains are tiny.
The cost is about the same as an LS swap.

5.3-4l65 Frank Z (seious off road) has a nice swap thread on NAXJA as well as a few others recently. Got to be a nice addition of power just a stock 5.3.

Serious i guess you don't know about them,Gmc made them in the 60s from a 305ci to a 478ci and they made peak torque under 2k rpm.Take a look at the 478 one http://6066gmcclub.com/gmcguy/EngineData.html

Oh I'm familiar with the V6's you're refering to, still not viable or worth the expense for a variety of reasons though.
Weight:
305A = 738 lbs.
305B = 771 lbs.
305C = 840 lbs.
305E = 795 lbs.
351 = 860 lbs.
401 = 880 lbs.
478 = 925 lbs.
702 = 1485 lbs.
637 = 1219 lbs.

My LM7 weighs a whopping 10lbs more than the 4.0L it replaced.

Aftermarket support for the LS Series is farr superior than that of the V-6's you referred to.

Carbed vs. F.I.........this one should be obvious.

LM7 makes 2815 to 300hp with ZERO mods and 400hp by reprogramming the PCM with a new fuel map.

Fuel economy.....LS Series wins again.

Don't get me wrong, customizing your rig is a very personal thing. Anyone is free to do whatever they want, however they want. But this forum and others are a great resource for getting info, and opinions. I gave you mine.

If you do swap in a V6, I look forward to seeing your write-up on it.

If it wasn't for the weight and lack of a aftermarket i would use one to be different.

305's are great at keeping your boat anchored in one spot too.

If you're gong to do a swap, do it right like Mr. Harrah did. Behold the V12 1977 Jerarri.

I like its purpose built story as well. For those who don't know, Mr. Harrah (of harrah's casinos) lived in reno but like to ski in Tahoe. Since the 4wd sports car had not been invented yet and having a certain amount of "rich guy" style that he needed to maintain, he had the Jerarri built to get him to the mountains regardless of the conditions.

Ferrari speed with old Jeep handling. What could possibly go wrong?

It seems to have survived quite well. It's also rumored to have won a race against a helicopter from Reno to Tahoe. It wasn't a garage queen, it was (one of) Harrah's daily drivers (he was the Jay Leno of his day).
