I've been running hids for as long as I can remember on all my cars. I've been thru 4 sets of hids already. Usually because the ballasts are always faulty. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to run oem ballasts from a newer vehicle that came equipped with factory hids and be able to rewire it so I can use it as an aftermarket hid system. I've seen a few ballast on eBay. I'm sure I can get a good used set from a Audi,bmw,acura.etc,..for around $100. I'm just assuming since they're factory hid ballast they're going to last a bit longer than the normal "made in china" hid ballasts everyone sells. I've googled but everything leads me to aftermarket systems.

a good ballast is going to be an expensive ballast. if your running hids on an xj, you should invest in the best stuff such as REAL projector lenses, upgraded wiring harness, and go to a reputable shop that sells hid kits and buy top of the line ballasts. the extra money will pay off. what ive seen with a lot of my friends, most online places (especially ebay) will get u cheap but crappy stuff.

I used an HID kit from ddmtuning.com on my Honda years back and it didn't fail me for a couple years. My good friend also has one of their kits on his BMW M3 and it has worked well for him for a few years now. Check them out.

But yeah, get an upgraded harness, like said above:
