A few months ago I purchased my third XJ. 96 Sport 2 door. Really like the looks, especially after a lift and paint job. Nice rims didn't hurt either! First XJ was a new 86 with GM 2.8. (Weep with me, but they put a gun to my head). Next was a real nice new 90 4 door Laredo. Lasted 10 years and 225K miles. This time around, since they are not new anymore (and don't get me going on the '14 Dart-Wannabe-Jeep), I had to choose from the used market and build what I wanted.

Just like the 2 door look! No excusing it.

But looking around, it became apparent how few were made, and many were SE two wheel drive.

I have searched all over for production numbers on two doors and cannot find anything authoritative. Does any one know what percentage of XJ production were two doors?

My guess between 5 and 10 percent. With about half being two wheel drive. That is from field observation.

Absent any real factory numbers, what is your best guess from field observation?

nice XJ. I don't see many 2 doors, and your right, almost all of them that I do see in person are 2wd. with that said, I know where a NICE 99 2 door 2wd with a 4.0 and ax15 is for $1000. I have been trying to convince my wife that "we" need it, but she says we have one Jeep, we don't need another :/ My current XJ is not much of a DD anymore and I think this one would fit that spot very well

Even a 2wd 2 door with a four banger and five speed is wonderfully practical. They sort of fill the niche of the old panel delivery truck. I have the rear seat bottom out of mine. I keep the back folded forward. A sliding load floor rests over the full open length. Plastic wall panel on 1/4" plywood cut to the interior size with a couple of 2" grab holes near the back end. Easy to slide cargo in, and then pull the load floor back to reach the deep stuff when unloading. I keep one seat cushion at work, and a spare one at home. Never needed either one yet. (Kids are grown and long gone.)

I wonder if it's anywhere near 5 percent of production.

It really depends on where you live. I don't see many 2 doors here in NC, maybe a handful but not many. Other people on here have said they are all over the place where they live. It would be nice to see some production numbers on 2 door, especially 2 door 4x4 5 speeds. I agree with you though most of the ones I have seen for sale are 2 door 2wd 5 speeds.

Here in WNY, I see them often. I can't say I've ever seen any 2wd Cherokees around Buffalo as most vehicles are 4wd if they had that option from the factory. I've been passing a mint 2 door 4x4 for $1200 for a couple weeks. Gone now though. I'd say 10% of the XJ's around here are 2 doors.

I'm in Ohio and I drive a 94 2 door 4x4 and I have seen maybe 2-3 other ones while driving so they're pretty uncommon here too. Unfortunately mine is an auto but I love my two door.

I'd love to know the production numbers along with colors produces and stuff like that too.
