Welcome to the forum!
Usually when you lift an XJ or anything you try to do it evenly or to have it a little higher in the rear like it came stock. The reason for this is if you plan on carrying any weight in the cargo area or even a small trailer, The leafs in the rear usually are worn and need replacement at this age and will not hold weight well or even a shackle type lift.
In the front for a 3" lift you must buy a new coil springs for a 3". That is to high for common spacers.

Will you need it maybe a lot have lifted 3 inches and didn't but some rare ones needed it.And honestly a t case drop is a brandaid you lose ground clearance and it changes the drivetrain angles.A sye kit does the same job with out any bad sides to it.There is two style sye kits one makes you take your t case apart to use and comes with a brand new driveshaft,The cheaper and kinda easier one is a hack and tap style that you cut off the output shaft on the t case and drill and tap it for the yoke. And that style can use a xj front driveshaft which can be easy to get.And since your new here have you looked at https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/nk...-chart-211878/
