Hey all-

I bought a transfer case for my Jeep - NP 242, because the old one died. Well, the XJ runs great now, but I have the old transfer case and I want to sell it. What do you think is a fair price for a busted TC to sell it on craigslist? I don't want to go way over, but I don't want to give it away. All opinions are appreciated.

Depends on what you mean by busted. I bought a 242 for 50 bucks a while back that worked great but I got a buddy deal.

 

i have tossed many a good 242 in the trash.

sold one last week from a 95 zj for 100 bux, but listed another from 89 xj for 50 bux. great condition and low k's.

i keep all my 231's tho.

 

As mentioned, it depends on what is broken. It was enough to get you into another case - so how much will a new owner need to dump into it to be functional?

$100-$150 for a good condition working one. If the breakage is much beyond a minor cosmetic issue, you would be lucky to get anything out of it. Maybe $20? It is all about what the buyer would be getting out of it.
