Tranny Help!

1998 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 Auto Trans 4x4
Driving to work this morning on the freeway and my jeep starts slipping in and out of gear, it would rev up and then catch gear again over and over, I was able to limp it off the freeway and into a gas station and walked to work from there, but anyways, after I stopped the vehicle won't engage into gear, the shift linkage is all in place, changed the filter and transmission fluid a month or two ago fluid is at good level, I did just put this transmission in less than a year ago, I'm pretty sure it's not in limp mode or whatever. drive, reverse, etc won't engage.. I'm just curious what would cause this to randomly happen??? Thanks for any responses!!

I'm still a newbie to jeeps, but kind of sounds like it could be one of those damn solenoids or problem with tranny wiring(short or ground). but like i said i'm still a newbie....
