why why why a tracker/sidekick!!! if you get the tracker and say you throw a 4" lift, congrats it is now 4"s of the ground, then youre going to cut the fenders, and after lift and fenders you still can only fit 29-31" tires.. the aftermarket is miniscule compared to an xj and stock the xj is so much more capable... and as far as a budget build goes the unibody is plenty strong
there is nothing wrong with sidekick/trackers they are capable and i would wheel one,,, but there just is no way it compares to an xj without serious modifications..the choice is yours but i think you will have more imediate enjoyment with the xj

im not knocking any of these, there are plenty out there that have been built and wheeled, my oppinion is simply that for what someone is willing to put into a vehicle more can be achived with an xj, given what exactly you want to do with it

My husband has a tracker with 3" of lift and he has 32 10.5 16 on it and they dont rub at all as a matter of fact he could fit 33s under it easily. Lifts and stuff like are definitely more expensive for trackers and if u put the calmini 3" suspension you will kill cv axles all day long. SAS it tho and you can fit anything under it. A pro is trackers come geared real low.....but honestly if I was you I would go with a Sami

Oh i see i thought u were lookin for strictly offroad.... I know you can gear a sami lower than you a geo but we both love our tracker but we have a little bit of everything too...a xj, a tracker, a ranger, and a yota....
My husband drives his 90 tracker from oakboro NC to fort mill sc daily for work with no problems hes has a decent set up for a mix of daily/offroad riding hes biggest disapointment is the lack of aftermarket parts. My husband would be glad to answer any questions u have if he think u will go for a trackick

Cherokees just seem overly popular and I would like to build something a little more unique. I dunno, I'll probably end up keeping the Jeep because my Dad is giving me a little raggedy *** trailer I'm planning on making a cheap little tent trailer out of and pulling it with a Tracker may be impossible.

I am definitely growing on the look of this XJ on the left, low center of gravity rig, I believe it has 39's but that would not be street worthy I would stay around 35's for the street mostly likely but similarly hack the body like this. Maybe full widths later on with bigger tires IF I could keep it road worthy.

IMO, I just couldn't justify having a 1.6L over a 4.0L. Sure the economy is there, but to me, reliability is a big issue. I'm on my 5th XJ now, and the only one I've EVER had major problems with was the 1986 model which had the GM 2.5L V6. I'm not knocking GM overall, but that motor was the worst piece of metal I've ever owned. I can't imagine the 1.6 being any better. Good luck!

Actually the 1.6 is a suzuki the only part that chevy has in the tracker is the emblem on the front geo is imported by chevy i see what u are saying about the 4.0 between me and my husband we have owned 7 xj/zj all 4.0 but also wouldnt hesitate to drive our tracker anywhere been as far as tenn. With no problems just my 2 cents either way i think u will enjoy either one
