Tracker vs Cherokee
Keep the xj its cheaper to build vs something really different will be.And yes some parts have a big sticker price but you shop around or find a different brand things get cheaper. The off road bumpers a few companies offer a diy kit half the price.A local welder will weld it up for you cheap if you catch them between jobs.

I got burned out, it became more and more of a hassle and all I had were projects sitting around I couldn't wheel. Some local shops told me they would get me in and do the stuff I paid in advanced for, I'd call and they say yeah I have this done and this done, I'd show up unannounced and nothing would be done my **** would be sitting in the weeds. One shop it sat there 7 months, the other one 9 months and they never did a thing to them.
So I quit, I didn't have the tools nor the know how to do the stuff myself. I had an idea for exactly what I wanted, had the parts and the money to pay for labor and people shafted me.

A tracker? Blah. If you want something like that I think you'd be better off with a samurai.
As far as cost goes, just start wheeling it stock with some mudders. Keep building it as you go. Upgrade as needed. It doesn't have to have 1k bumpers on it before it leaves pavement. May not be able to do everything and anything but you CAN wheel it.
Also, I see your a vendor what do you sell? Just curious.

Personally the Cherokee is a better vehicle than the Tracker. I owned a 95 Geo Tracker for a short time. It was even lifted with 29" Super Swampers, yeah that's right, I'm not kidding. Well it was a rust bucket, so bad that the driver door was like a lambo door but reversed... I bought it for $300, used and abused it for a summer until it had a fuel issue and scrapped it. Wish I had time to fix or properly sell it instead but needed some cash to buy my wife's car. Moral of the story is that Cherokee are a better vehicle overall.

why why why a tracker/sidekick!!! if you get the tracker and say you throw a 4" lift, congrats it is now 4"s of the ground, then youre going to cut the fenders, and after lift and fenders you still can only fit 29-31" tires.. the aftermarket is miniscule compared to an xj and stock the xj is so much more capable... and as far as a budget build goes the unibody is plenty strong
there is nothing wrong with sidekick/trackers they are capable and i would wheel one,,, but there just is no way it compares to an xj without serious modifications..the choice is yours but i think you will have more imediate enjoyment with the xj
