towing my cherokee?
I have a 1998 grand cherokee Laredo currently using as my daily but soon buying another Jeep, I'm wanting to use my Laredo as a trail/mud Jeep and the new Jeep as my daily driver the question is with a 3000 dollar budget what should i get to tow my Laredo to and from places on a trailer.

Towing capacity:
Grand 5000lbs
F150 7500lbs
F250 11,000lbs
C1500 7500lbs
C2500 10000lbs
All '95's by the way
Is having another Jeep that important to you? If I was toting a wife and kid around I'd want to tow with something that's up to the task. A stock Cherokee has a curb weight of approximately 3,357 lb. Now add bumpers, add armor, add any gear you have stuffed in there. Now add the weight of your trailer, a conservative 1500lbs. You're at or over the towing capacity on the Grand. Add to the fact that a 16 ft. trailer can wag the Grand like nobodies business. Buy a truck.
Edit: Scratch the Cherokee curb weight, just realized your talking about a Grand, so add more weight onto that.

I just checked one for yucks:
2001
F-250 Super Duty 5.4L gas 4x4 crew cab Lariat leather New tires Goose neck trailer hitch. Some rust. 240,000mi.
$6,000.
Twice what his budget is.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the OP s budget I think the best advice is for him to save until it can be done right. Towing a XJ with a Grand is suicide.

80s 1 ton dually 2wd ford or gm both can be had at your price range if you look hard. And get a big block they tow a lot better then a small block will.If you can find a ford idi 7.3 diesel that cheap get it.Those are not fast but will pull anything and get better mileage then a big block.

Any 90s truck. I honestly recommend a mid-late 90s Ram 1500 but ONLY if you can get a 5-speed manual. The autos in those are time bombs, but they are good trucks otherwise. Handle loads very well.

If you drive a stick everyday it might be alright. But for towing something occasionally/weekends manual transmissions are a lot of unnecessary work. Plus JMO Dodge trucks come last on everyones list for very valid reasons.
