Default Tow rig.

So I am thinking about getting a dd/tow rig to pull my Cherokee. Anyone have recommendations on a vehicle? I'm thinking something in the $5000 range. Could I get another Xj? Would an Xj pull well?

x2 on the Dodge Cummins, either a 2500 or 3500.

I'd go with a 2nd gen over 1st though. Electronics in the earlier ones suck in my experience.

Late 80s/early 90s Ford Diesels are worth looking at as well.

My dream tow rig is:

-80's Ford dump truck with the chassis stretched so that I could fit a crew cab on it and fit a 13 foot flatbed, back 3 feet on a hydraulic ram to help with loading angle

-toolboxes on each side under the bed/behind the side mounted fuel tanks

-dana 60 up front on recentered H1 24 bolt beadlocks and dana 80 out back with regular dually wheels on the inside and recentered 24 bolts on the outside

-37" Humvee tires

-12V Cummins with a 6 speed

-Rear power seat out of a fullsize chevy conversion van as the main front seat. Lays down into a queen size bed

I have put a bit of thought into this subject. Maybe one day when my money tree sprouts

Naw. Get a 2500 truck or a 1500 and a trailer with surge brakes.

Not to hijack this thread, but what is the tow limit on an XJ with a 4.0? Curious as to what my 92 can handle. It has 31s with stock gears.

GC doesn't have the weight behind it to tow another similar sized vehicle. Not much better off than trying to tow an XJ with an XJ.
