Tires on a stock Cherokee
I am trying to put the biggest possible tires on a stock Cherokee. Some people are saying that 235/75r16 will fit and I was wondering where I can find some tires and rims that would look good .

You can put 20" rims on if you want... It's all personal preference, but the most availability and selection in terms of the tire sizes you're looking for would be in a 15" rim. Can easily bump it up though, a lot of guys like the look of the 16" TJ Rubicon rims on the XJ's.
If you aren't airing down every weekend to go wheeling, sidewall depth isn't particularly important. Just put some 235/75's in a 15 or 16" wheel of your favourite flavour and enjoy.

You can find steel wheels starting at $39 and up in a 15" from many places. If you do that and get a 15x8" wheel with 3.75-4" of backspacing you can use them for a lot of different size tires from stock with a wider stance up to and including a 35x12:50x15" with a lift later on if desired. With that size wheel you will have the clearance needed with the larger tires to clear the frame when turning instead of rubbing.
That way the wheel can grow with you and keep in mind the larger the tire size usually means more money. But you will not need new wheels when you do.

I went to go buy 235/75r16 BFgoodrich all terrain tires online and it is saying it won't fit my jeep for some reason. I don't know wether to buy them and take a risk or to just get smaller tires.

That's because your Jeep never came with 16" wheels from factory. Are you sure you have 16" wheels?

It's just saying that because that particular size was never stock. That size is 30" in diameter which will fit under a stock XJ, but tire places only care about what the stock sizes were.

It all depends on the wheel and the back spacing it has for clearance a 30" tire in a 16 will rub the frame at the very least. It also depends on the size of the 16" tire that will fit on a stock XJ wheel.
Best bet refer to my first post.
