Default tire speed rating E???

Hello guys, I'm new here and this is my first post. I hope I'm putting it in the right place. I have recently purchased a 2000 GC to use for hunting and such. In my search for tires I settled on a set of Good Year Authority tires at Walmart but there is a hitch.... I noticed that the tire has an "E speed rating" and it says the "speed translation" is 43mph....... HUH??? Am I missing something? I cant even find an E rating on any tire speed rating chart?!?! and 43 mph?? What's that about... isn't that like a small trailer tire rating ...and does that mean you are not supposed to exceed 43 mph?? I don't understand. Can anyone shed some light

Every site I've searched says basically the same as this one:

The "E" is the load range, not the speed rating.

Where did you get that info from? Not sure what size he got but this isn't the only one with an E speed rating.

Common sense tells me that tire does not have an E speed rating. You honestly think a retailer like Walmart is going to sell a tire that can only keep sustained speed of 43mph? The person that entered the info for that tire has no clue of what they're doing. The tire has a load rating of E.

Yeah I'm with y'all , this doesn't make any sense. I think someone putting in the info on the website. I'll get to a store soon and see what the tire has stamped on it....I saw a post on another forum where a guy bought these tires , said he loves them and his were "E" rated. Something is not right and it must be nationwide....and an E load rating is a 10 ply tire, that definitely wouldn't be right either...

The tire is an LT, as in Light Truck, so it could be a 10 ply tire.

A lot of LT tires are 10ply which is a benefit. The main downside to the authority is sidewall strength.

Submitted a question to Walmart about the E rating. Of 8 sizes they offer (a Walmart exclusive tire) their specs show:
1 has an S (112mph) rating
3 have an E (43mph) rating
3 have a Q (100mph) rating
1 has a C (37mph) rating

We shall see.

Somebody making a Walmart wage is entering the info, you get what you pay for. Need I say more?

Nuff said.

Well kinda. I remember when the rumor was going around about top brand name firearms sold strictly by Walmart being of low quality. Response by some of the manufacturers was that they wouldn't put their name on an inferior product. That rumor disappeared. Hard to see Goodyear letting their name go out on an inferior product.

I have a set of wrangler authority tires. "E" is the load range which is a 10 ply tire. The speed raiting is "Q" 99mph.

GUESSING this applies to the other two sizes with the E rating and the one size with the C rating. Corrections still haven't been made on the specs though.

Why speed rated at 43 MPH? Is that a typo?

Q:
On the 265/70R17 E Authority, it shows speed rating is 43 MPH. I want to spend the extra money for the load ability, but don't want to have to drive 43 MPH.

TYPO!!! They are rated for regular use, just a 10 ply tire. Ride is excellent!

I have these tires on my truck. The speed rating listed here is wrong. The actual rating (as posted on the tire) is "Q" which equals 99 mph. On a side note, I love these tires.
