Default Throwing a idea around, buying a "different kind" of Cherokee

Well I've been thinking alot lately, been tossing the idea around of selling my XJ and buying a 2 door SJ instead. In the future my Jeep is only going to be my summer daily driver, going to buy some cheap piece of crap for the winter time, so gas mileage and that sort of thing isnt a concern plus I wont have to worry about it rusting out on me.

Mainly what I want out of a Jeep is a long distance road trip vehicle that can do some intermediate wheeling when I want it to and do some expeditiony sorts of things. I mean I CAN sleep in my XJ but it isn't comfortable, and the Waggy's are bigger and nicer inside, but still they aren't so big that they are cumbersome like a full size truck or something. Also from what im thinking I should be able to do a simple spring over, drop it back down an inch or two with some custom leaves and throw a set of 35's and a locker on it and its done, shouldnt have as many of the drivetrain/chassis strength issues as an XJ does.

Issues as of now are, I dont know what my XJ would be worth, if I were to sell it I'd prolly be taking a bath on it, I have almost 12K in it and I'd say I'd be lucky to get like 5 or 6. Also dont know how hard the Waggy's are to find in decent cosmetic condition, mechanical stuff being worn out is no big deal but i'm not a fan of body work, plus I will only settle for a 2 door.

I mean come on, this just looks so ridiculously cool

Well i'm just throwing the idea around, what do you guys think?

I'm obsessed with those. I'd love to have one as a project car. I still love my XJ. I say go for it. Your right on taking a major $ lose on yours though.
Hard part is alot of the ones I've seen are cancer cases. Rust beyond control.
I've even seen ppl giving them away. But like you. I don't wont to bother with body work. It's too much effort and a skill I don't have. Nor the money to pay someone.
Killer jeeps though. I really like them.

My buddy has one just like that, except his it 5 different colors of grey and white. I like it and his runs no matter what the engine sounds like. I swear sometimes it wont make it out of the parking lot, but it goes and goes.

if you can afford the gas then hecks yeah. ive had two of those with the 360. if i was rich, my dream fsj would be a 73 cherokee cheif with the 401 and then ild swap in a five speed. the 401 is rediculous. i dont know how much you know about them but the amc blocks were all made with a high nickel content which makes it solid and really durable. i have an 88 with a 360 and a sucky automatic with a dd 44 and bfg a/t and it goes everywhere, with no lift. cancer is a problem for sure and putting a lift on it sucks but because of the gas tank and rusty bolts. but i dont care. theyre sexy. the one in the picture is sweet ild just prefer a different cover and a bit wider stance. get one if you got the money

I love the full size cherokees, d44s and a 360 or a 401 pure sex.

go for it! i love these jeeps and am looking at doing the same thing. found an 87 waggy with 85,000 original miles for 750 bucks. its got some rust around the wheel wells in the rear but im planning on trimming when i lift it for a set of 38 swampers. so yes they can be found for a decent price
