Default Thoughts on this jeep?

Guy says it started cutting out. They put a new computer but still doesn't run. For $750 what are your thoughts?

For 750? Go for it. I'd inspect it carefully before taking it home though.

Yeah I talked him down to 750. I'll go check it out, look for rust and what not. What else should I look for? Never bought a vehicle that didn't actually start or run when I got it.

^^ this. As long as it doesn't have rot I'd buy it. Probably the CPS.

Even though he put a new computer? Possibly I guess.

if it were the cps, it would throw a code for that.
if no codes, then possible computer. it could have the wrong computer in it.
chances are it was doing the same thing before he changed the computer, thinking that was the problem.

i'm in the same boat with an 04 wj i just bought. the guy changed the computer. it was running great for a bit, then died intermittently, and at times just cranked. when started, it would idle fine, drive fine till it got into 3rd gear then die. other times it would drive just great.
i'm thinking computer for mine too. no codes for crank sensor. but it's throwing an evap leak.

Rust, general engine appearance, leaks, check the oil, coolant, trans fluid.

You can generally tell how well a vehicle was maintained just by looking it over carefully, seeing how fresh the fluids look, etc.

Keep one thing in mind and remind him as well in that condition all you are buying are parts. Possible easy fix maybe not as you know the real killer is RUST!!

Good Luck!

Do the wiggle test on the computer wires behind the over flow tank. People break the plugs changing the computer. A couple zip ties and my $ 700 96 GC limited was running like a champ!
