Buying it!
Thanks everyone! I truly appreciate the quick responses on this. I went and looked at it last night and decided that I wanted it. It certainly has some issues but it's nothing I can't handle. The engine and transmission are in great condition and that's the biggest thing for me. It has a lot of cosmetic damage but I decided I am going to buy it and then just stick it in the garage and work on it until it's up to road worthiness (I have high standards.) But I will certainly be coming back here for help when I get it!

Oh and also, I got it down to 1,000 from 1,400. So, I'd say I am getting a pretty good deal!

With it only being a 2WD(which I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole) you may want to consider putting a 'lunch box' locker in the rear diff just for piece of mind. The rear on those is really light and its easy to kick the *** end out in the rain and they will get stuck on wet grass if given the chance. There are a lot of different options for this style of locker but I would highly recommenced this one. It's far cheaper than an ARB or Detroit locker and anyone with basic mechanical knowledge can install it in a few hours with no special tools needed. I plan on putting one of these on my 96XJ in the rear at some point.

Quote: 1997 and 2wd PASS. Ovoid the 97s like a plague.
Ignorance is bliss. Wiring wise only difference the transmission still uses Older 2 rotor instead of the 4 rotor. This is a good thing as any year AW4 transmission will work. Other then the hinges the rest is the same as 1998.

nice... I would turn it into a sand/beach machine. Add a locker in the rear, lift a tad and add some nice wheels tires and enjoy it

I have a 97 2 dr base model auto 4wd 4.0. there's nothing wrong with it. at all. it has 139k on it now and leaks nothing. everything works. 22+ mpg. drives straight, smooth, and quiet. 0 issues. literally.

nothing wrong with a 97.

Awesome! I am really excited about being able to have another Jeep. I'm really excited to just have a project too!

@Dire_Wolf -- Thankyou for the advice! I have heard of these and will certainly look into it.

I will post pics of it when I get it on the 27th of this month.
