Default Tested out the Cherokee

tested out my jeep today. Just put in a used motor. Buddy of mine has a few pretty good sized mounds of dirt in his front yard. So I took my jeep up there and did a few laps over the mounds.

Took his kids for a ride

Then BAM!!!!!! Tuckin the drivers front tire into the fender well and snapped the axle shaft u joint

*note the other to u-joint caps laying on the ground by the tire where they fell.

YAY for Carnage. These i think were the CarQuest Ultra strength ones i think. I looked at the ear that cracked off, and it was made of junky "pot metal",.... This is the first time I had a breakage like this. The loud pop/snap noise of a ujoint letting go was interesting. Got a good reaction of my friends that were hovering around.

Overall, the motor is running good, need to replace the shaft. Broke the outer yoke when the u-joint let loose. At least it broke here rather then in the middle of the trails!

Glad the the Jeep is running! It is a really good thing that the u joint let go there instead of the trails. Let us know how the repair goes.

i had to replace the shaft. the ears on the yoke are totally destroyed.

As for the coil deflecting, its just what happens when you compress the coil. The top of the coil is flat, but the bottom of the coil is on an incline, so the coil tends to bow out.
