hood vents, two row radiator, make sure your cooling system is nice and clean, there really isnt too much you can do to prevent these motors from getting warm, its in their nature to run hot for some reason, but you can definitely help it a lot

Hood vents will help, but they are more for venting the engine compt to take heat wear off of other parts in the engine compt( I am running a labaron hood vent, so Im not knocking, it does help). the engine temp will be completely controlled by the coolant system (thermo,h20 pump, a *mud filled radiator*, coolant, etc. what kind of terrain do you wheen in? if its muddy, expect a clogged radiator, and dont pressure wash the radiator face

the misfire at high temps is a common thing with the later model xjs like ours, its cause the number 3 injector goes all weird when it gets hot and doesnt put enough fuel into the engine, you can get like an injector heat jacket somewhere to put around it and it helps, its actually a tsb its so common, also if you just run 50/50 through a nice clean cooling system it should cool just fine, try running a 180 t stat in it and that should help a little, but get your cooling system flushed really good first, the more work involved way to fix it(not that much work) is getting an additional electric cooling fan to replace the clutch fan and wire it to a switch or at a lower temperature then the other e-fan thats already in there that comes on at like 218 i think, cant remember exactly, oh and make sure that fan actually works cause that could be another reason why it runs so hot, when im wheeling it goes up to the temp where the fan comes on and then the temp hits a brick wall then it goes down after that

Make sure the e fan is running up to par, It is speed. You should be able to hear it running in the cab. Also check your fan clutch. I would be willing to bet its one of your fans.

well the first way is let the jeep warm up and see if it ever kicks on when it starts gettin hot, or you can test it with a voltmeter, ill let somebody that knows how to do that explain it, cause i honestly dont know how to lol, im not an electric whiz, thats my one weak area lol

IIRC it should turn on when the AC is on or when the temp hits around 218. Also i think it comes on during start up if the defrost is on. You could apply direct power to it and see if it works. To see if its the actual fan or a control unit. When mine was going out. It would start out a little storng but would get to the point where i could stop it with my finger. I meant to say earlier in my last post that it is a one speed fan.
