Default Sye Qiestion

what is the different between the rubicon express and the rough country sye kits? RC is $200 while RE is only $100 what is the difference between them and is spending $100 more for the RC one honestly more worth it? here are links to them both.

http://rubiconexpress.com/JeepParts/...YE&part=RE1807

http://roughcountry.com/jeep_xtras_slip_yoke.html

just by looking at both picture i can tell the RC kit comes with more parts but are they really worth it? thanks everyone.

that rubicon one is on a hack and tap it appears to me. that seems to be a good price for the RC as that is the full SYE kit. i may be wrong but that is why i think there is a difference in the prices. go with the RC one. IMO

right i got the hack and tap part but is the full kit made by RC that much better then the hack and tap by RE or does it basically do the same job. i dont wanna pay $100 extra just bc its a full kit even though both kits do the exact same thing. so my real question is do both kits do the same exact thing or does the full kit do more then the hack an tap?

from my understanding the hack and tap kit is not for the np 231. dont quote me on that as i have just been learning about the hack and tap kits. i think they are just for the 242. however the RE says its for 96 and newer 231s so i dunno. maybe someone else will chime in.

You can do a hack and tap on a 231. Some people get a little nervous about cutting and tapping the main shaft. I prefer the full kits myself, but it's more of a personal preference thing, IMO.

6 to one half dozen to another
still a sye it just depends on how confident you are with cutting and drilling your output shaft and gettin it right
or pullin your t-case apart to install the the new shorter output and seals

i think the best bet is to go with the full kit that way no way it can get messed up where i would have to go out and buy a whole nother kit anyways. with that being said can i get anyones input on who makes the best sye kit and why? thanks

advance adapters are real popular for full kits. many, many people run hack and taps with no problems though, as mentioned before its all personal preference.

the hack and tap cuts the main shaft of the T-case, "hack," and then you "tap" a new hole in the section that you cut. whereas a full kit would replace the main shaft

in the link u sent me it says for brand new custom driveshaft its $349.99. and its only $199.99 for sye and driveshaft kit. so the 200 is what any other kit comes with correct? or am i missunderstanding and it comes with a driveshaft which others dont and the 350 kit is just an upgraded drivshaft?

after reading up more on it its a hack and tap system where they refurbish a used front driveshaft from a cherokee or grand cherokee. do they do the hack and tap themselves and we just install? or does the customer do the hack and tap and install?

No, the kit that is 199 is the complete kit with driveshaft. the new upgraded shaft is a brand new shaft like a tom woods shaft, the one that comes with the kit is a refurbished shaft, just as strong though. ive seen allot of these kits sell successfuly. if u want peace of mind then opt for the new shaft.

it seems to be more of a question of are you confident enough to do the hack n tap kit or spend a bit more and bolt it on. (no cutting ect.)
