swing out tire carrier
Has anyone attempted to use a tire swing from a blazer on there xj. Just curious if it would work, because Im going to the jy tomorrow morning and there are a lot of blazers with them on. I was thinking about grabbing one of them so i can get my spare out of the cargo area

the blazers have the swing that bolts onto the body and the catch that bolts on to the lift gate. the only thing is the contours of the body w it bolts on to the blazer is round where ours are square. i think it would still work but not positive.

I used one from a pathfinder before. I made a bracket come up from the bumper on the side so it was stronger then bolting it to the body...
worked great for a 33" tire.. I have an other that I wil put on my wifes xj someday I have time..LOL

Years ago I was going to do this to my Ramcharger.
I spent hours in a hot field unbolting a carrier from a burned up Blazer. Took all the parts home & started to adjust them to fit the Dodge.
I never did finish it before i sold the truck, but I think it would have been fairly easy to do. The upper bracket would have been the hardest one IIRC.
Whatever you do, be sure to add some plate inside the skin, & bolt through everything, sandwiching the skin in between.
The tubes themselves may need to be cut to Adjust the brackets. These will need to be sleeve welded if you do cut them. In other words, you'll need to put a smaller diameter length of tube inside the ones you cut to re-enforce them.

well bad news i went to the jy this morn and they were closed...i am hoping that i will be able to cut notches on the brackts to make it fit on the body better drill the holes put the bolts through with a metal brace so the bolts dont rip through the body. i guess i am going on monday now after i get outta work....hopefully i will be able to make this idea work
