Subs and an amp?
I'm lookin into gettin some subs and an amp, but I don't know how much of an amp I'll need. I'm either gonna get one or two 12s. Will a 425w amp push 2 12s? If not, how much of an amp would I need? I'm not lookin to blow my ears out, but I would like it to have a decent hit without blowing my windows either. I listen to mostly heavy metal, so I like a nice bass tone with the breakdowns A friend of mine split his front windshield with 2 competition 12s, so I'm kinda worried about mine even with normal 12s. He has a cherokee also. Any input would help a lot, thanks

the kind of amp you will need is going to depend on the kind of subs your looking at. you need to match the amp and subs together depending on there watts. how much you looking to spend?

I'm lookin to spend under $100 on an amp hopefully. I might get a 425w Jensen off of someone. They also have 2 12s and 2 8s, but I probably wont get those cuz I'm low on funds. I might a 12in sony X-plod sub for free off of my sister's fiancee. Just on average, would the 425w amp push a single 12? I hear of people using 600w amps to push single subs, so I thought a 425w might not be enough.

two 10's would be better imo. they react faster to the double bass of harcore breakdowns than 12's. im running two memphis PR 10's with a 1600w massive audio nano monoblock amp. my amp is overkill. all you really need is around 450w and two 10's in a sealed box. im sure you will be happy.

Would I get away with a 425w? If I could find a set of 10s I'll do that. The stuff I listen to can get pretty heavy at times > If I run dual 12s until then, would 425w be enough? Or should I run a single 12 until I get 10s? If I don't have to spend much on an amp I would rather do that. I don't need a fancy system, just somethin to sound nice and have a decent hit. If I can get away with a little Im happy.

www.amazon.com will have a huge selection of amps, speakers, woofers, and boxes to chose from. You can find a box for less than it would cost for you to build it. That 425w Jensen amp will only put out about 200w RMS. I have a Jensen 340w amp powering one 10" sub, it barley has enough power for the single ten. Spend a little more and get a better amp, you'll be much happier with the results.

Thanks for the help. I'll look for somethin with a little more power then cuz I might end up runnin some 6x9s in a box also. All I have now is 4 pioneer 5.25 speakers in place of the stock ones. If the 425w is cheap, I'll take it for now. Im thinkin a 600w would be a little better. And the bands I listen to: Of Mice & Men, Asking Alexandria, A Day To Remember, Avenged Sevenfold (old stuff), All That Remains (old stuff), Parkway Drive also, Blessthefall, Disturbed, Eyes Set To Kill, and many more that I don't feel like listing right now. haha.

I have a Kenwood amp that is supposedly putting out 250w RMS per channel, hooked to 2 12" subs in a sealed box. I doubt the wattage being put out, as there is only a 40amp fuse on the amp, but it still hits hard when you are inside. My vents occasionally fall out onto the floor and the overhead lights rattle like you wouldn't believe. Outside of the jeep, you can barely tell the subs are on. No one believes that I have subs until I show them. You don't need a lot of power to make it sound decent inside, but if you want to impress the neighborhood you'll need a higher powered amp.
