Sub, Amp combo question
If I were to run a single 12" thats pushing 600 watts rms, ( http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...-11P3D412.html ) What kind of amp would i want to run with it? Would a mono or a 2-channel work? Ive had a couple systems before but this part always confuses me. I only need an amp for one sub, so i would assume mono but i wouldnt want to order the wrong amp. Thanks for any help guys!

You could run either. I prefer mono amps. just look for something with a 2 ohm load.
prob something like this if you want to go RF.

I would use this one:
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...t_REF1800.aspx
It's better to "overpower" a sub than "underpower" it...
"bridging" is when you want a two channel amp to act like a monoblock. Some amps do not allow for this.
Wiring a sub like that is just wiring it's voicecoils in parallel which effectively cuts the overall load in half. If you wired them in series, it would double the load.
This amp would also work, keep the gains lower though:

This one is also good:

I wouldn't power it with anything LESS than 600wrms into 2ohms.

ok i misunderstood the diagram, my current sub is bridged. And i definately want the sub fully powered if its only going to be a single sub. I am liking the second amp you posted. Since the sub says its 4 ohms, would i still want a 2 ohm amp or however that works?

I agree completely with "overpowering" over "underpowering". Same thing with amp wiring, I use a minimum of 3awg on all my systems to be certain my amp is not limited on the power it can draw. My rule of thumb is take the minimum wire size required and go up by at least one. NEVER go under on wire size, my buddy thought he was smart and used 8 awg on a 2000W amp, Then wondered "why does it sound funny?" when it fried a 2 foot section of the wire.

That sub has dual voice coils. It has two 4ohm voice coils. Wire them in parallel like the diagram posted and you have a 2ohm load.

hahaha yeah i believe that, but ive never had to run that much. The most i ever had was 1200 watt sony amp on 8gauge wire and that was fine. Plus the power wire had a fuse in it

That wasn't a 1200wrms amp. Maybe 3-400wrms. Most companies rate their amps by MAX power which is complete horse****, but it does sell amps to n00bcakes.

i believe it was 800rms, the subs i was running at the time were 500rms each though. alittle underpowered but still loud enough to rattle you up

Lol yeah, melted the carpet under his back seat. He's listened to my "bull****" ever since then lmao
THIS^^ Cant tell you how many people were astounded by my 150watt JBL amp that powered my old 12's. They never could figure out how it could keep up with their "800watt" amp that they were using. My JBL was labeled with the RMS (strangely enough) while theres was labeled with the PEAK.
