As stupid as it may sound but:
My dad was wanting to buy a 4 banger MJ for a parts truck during the restoration job... The guy only wanted like 1200 or 1500 or something for the whole truck... The truck was totally rust free. I kind of wish we could of drove down and bought it. I hear Alabam is a pretty state.

Last time it snowed here was about May
I have put both of my XJ's in 4hi at 70mph, on the highway. I do it all the time. 4Lo I stop put it in neutral and then shift, if you don't most jeeps will grind depending on the linkage adjustment.

o boy! thank you everyone!
And does the NSS come into play when shifting? Because my NSS isn't working correctly and the Jeep doesn't engage 4wd. Yes, I'm troubleshooting some (
) problems..

you can actually engage 4-hi at any safe high way speed...
and ive always found that i dont grind at all going into 4-lo by moving at about 2 MPH, like some one else said, but then putting it in neutral while coasting, then pulling it on back to 4-lo...ive never got a grind out of it doing it that way
but i have grinded it before if i slow down to 2 MPH but keep it in gear and pull the lever back, or if i come to a complete stop with it in neutral, i still sometimes get a grind....but like i said, moving at 2 MPH, in neutral, i always get a clean smooth shift into 4-lo
and thats with both the manual in my 93 XJ, and the auto in my 04 WJ

242 is also a 2wd t-case. it just gives you the added option of running in full time 4wd. it has 2wd, 4 full-time, 4 part-time and 4 low. with neutral in there somewhere.
you're thinking of the 249 t-case which is full time 4wd with just hi and lo. it's the quadra-trac.
