stop, put it in neutral then pull the 4wd lever to either 4wd H or 4wd L

Its better to engage while moving. If in to 4hi- shift under 45mph. If into 4Lo then 2-3mph

You can do it while moving, just make sure your wheels are not slipping...

yup, in our manual, it say's tranny in neutral and shift into 4hi between 80-90kph, so 45-55mph.

but yeah, for 4lo, 2-3mph is best, but it's still ok to do while not moving at all.

Ok, heres an example for you... Your driving on a paved country road in the middle of a windy winter day... You then turn down a road that is covered in drifts and realize that turning on the 4WD is a good idea... You would want to do this while you are moving... if you stop, you will sacrafice the momentum you had and have a better chance of getting stuck.

A more perfect example is driving in sand...
