simple, but actually a good idea. How about some stretchy web over the top to keep it all in on a rough trail?

Just spend the $12 at Walmart and get a big black box for the back. I did, and i screwed it into the herculiner floor. Holds my tool bag, tire kit, full size floor jack, handle, four way lug wrench, jumper cables, battery boost box, mag light, spare fluids, crowbar, ratchet straps, tow strap, and more that i cant remember.
The spare is still in the stock spot, and i have enough room for my dog, groceries, and last fall a 190LB buck.

I got a bigger black box, fabbed a metal rack to the bottom, and welded it to a 2" square tube. Holds all my recover items, jacks, fluids, and anything else that may break on a trail. I just slide it in the receiver hitch and off I go. When I get to the trails, I unhook it and chain it to a tree, and put it back when I leave. (of course I keep recovery gear in jeep). Thinking about making a spare tire carrier on the same concept.
