Default Stock LSD/posi??? did I miss something?

ok so my budd has a 99 red xj sport aw4, 231, 29 spline 8.25, 3:55's and he says it came stock posi! I haven't seen the thing wheel. I find it hard to believe. maybe it's limited slip? I guess my real question is, did jeep make stock xj's with LSD rears(or even posi)? I think he's mistaken since I have an almost identical xj with a regular open 29 spline 8.25 dif. with 3:55's

Your mistaken. They are very similar but not the same. LSD gives power the the Wheel with more traction while a real posi rear end is when both wheels are locked on the same axle both spinning the same amount no matter how much traction they have. That's what a posi locker does. but either way, thanks for confirming they did make them, I didn't know they did

Posi is a chevy lsd and is now a generic term for a lsd.

A true locker powers both wheels at all times regardless of traction. Posi's and LSD's are the same, take a posi and get one wheel off the ground and see which wheel spins (Not the one you need). I have a 8.25 29 spline with a factory posi in it sitting in the garage. I just bought it for the axles when I put my Detroit in. Usually there's a sticker in the glove box of the vehicle stating you have to use an additive in the gear oil.

Hmm. Well I that's good to know. I'm sorry that I thought I was right thanks for correcting me but yea that's pretty cool that they make those stock anyhow. Maybe I can get him too swap axles with me.
